The Challenge of Competing to Make the US Team Pushes all Pilots to Improve Skills The US has always fielded top notch F3J teams despite the fact that there are very few F3J events held in the US. In fact, the first F3J World Championships held in England was won by the US team of Joe Wurts, Skip Miller and Ben Clerx and managed by Jim McCarthy, with Joe taking the first individual World Championship. On a 2 year cycle the US fields a team to compete against the best pilots in the world. The top 3 Pilots and 3 Junior pilots qualify to go to the world championships (WC) next year in Tavaux France. The AMA provides world championship team participation support. This support typically covers only about 1/3 of the expenses of traveling to and participating in the WC events. In order to participate, the team engages in fundraising activities to acquire the funds necessary to attend the WC. Your support is greatly appreciated by the team, and all funds collected are used towards team expenses, with any remaining funds left in the account for the next WC team. You can make a donation to the team, get a tax deduction AND increase your donation if your employer has a charitable matching donation plan.
